Children’s Vision

It is important for children to have regular eye examinations because eye problems can develop at any age. NHS examinations are available for children under 16 years of age.

We are aware of how important it is for children to feel comfortable with their spectacles to encourage wear. We have a range of suitable frames for babies, toddlers and children, including sunglasses, which can be chosen in a variety of styles, colours and sizes. There is an exciting selection of designer frames tailor-made for younger faces from William Morris called ‘Young Wills’ and ‘Wolf Cubs’ from Wolf Eyewear. These ranges have comfortable quality frames in a variety of designs and colours.

For babies and toddlers, samples of a variety of specialist frames for babies and toddlers are also available, which can then be ordered to individual specifications. Mira-Flex frames are made out of a single piece of light malleable material with no metal components, specially designed bridge and have an elastic adjustable band. Tomato glasses are very light, robust, are adjustable, have a unique nose pad and side tips, and are made from strong, flexible, non-toxic TR90 materials.

Sometimes children can be unsure about what a visit to an optometrist might be like. We have a selection of stories on the same theme including one featuring the popular characters from the Oxford Reading Tree books in the practice.
